PURPOSE

The district Avenues of Service Award recognizes Rotary and Rotaract members for outstanding work this Rotary year in one or more of Rotary’s five Avenues of Service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service, and Youth Service.

Club Service – involves action a member takes within their club to help it function successfully.

Vocational Service – the purpose of promoting high ethical standards in businesses and professions, recognizing the worthiness of all dignified occupations, and fostering the ideal of service in the pursuit of all vocations. The role of members includes conducting themselves and their businesses in accordance with Rotary’s principles and lending their vocational skills to club-developed projects in order to address the issues and needs of society.

Community Service – comprises efforts to improve the quality of life of those who live within the club’s locality or municipality by striving for positive peace in the community

International Service – comprises those activities that members do to advance international understanding,  goodwill, and positive peace by fostering acquaintance with people of other countries, their cultures, customs, accomplishments, aspirations, and problems, through reading and correspondence and through cooperation in all club activities and projects designed to help people in other lands.

Youth Service – recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster positive world peace and cultural understanding.

SELECTION AND NOMINATION
Your club may nominate as many members as it chooses for Avenues of Service Awards. As club president, you determine how nominees are selected. You might, for example, ask the club’s board to select nominees or appoint a committee to do it. For guidance on who to nominate for this recognition, refer to examples of service that qualify a member for the award.

After your club selects nominees, you, as club president, submit the nominations. Complete this form for each nominee.

In this nomination form, you’ll be asked for information about the member’s service activities and accomplishments. After you submit the nomination, it will be sent to your district governor.

The district governor will decide whether to recognize each nominee with the Avenue of Service Award certificate.

AVENUES OF SERVICE AWARD (Rotary International Recognition)
When members have been recognized for service in each of the five avenues, the governor can nominate them for the Avenues of Service Award at the Rotary International level. If they are found to be eligible, a pin and crystal will be sent to the governor, to be presented to the member being honored.
